Thanks for the update Bill.
Quick question: Do you think Meszaros is in the lineup because they feel he is playing better than Gustafsson or is it to show other teams that he is healthy so they can move him?

He's playing because Gustafsson was awful in his last two games before being scratched. The Flyers are rumored to have been trying for the last 20 months (!) to trade Meszaros and there have been no takers unless they agree to take on a bad contract in return or eat salary on the cap. Considering how badly teams leaguewide are looking to add proven defensemen, I'm not sure that I fully believe that despite Meszaros' injury history and being a frequent healthy scratch.

If the top 6 still can't get anything going at ES might they try this instead?

This being the last year of his contract I think the longer we go into the season the more likely the Flyers will eat some of that contract.
But I have to agree. It seems strange they can't move him at all.
That said, I'd be ok hanging onto him until the trade deadline.

Yay, too bad Minnesota can't add Patrick Kaleta as well for tonight's game.

If memory serves me correctly, Parise is a Flyer killer. This should be an interesting game, and its followed up by Detroit and Dallas on the road.

I'm with you on that, by the deadline he would only still be owed about 900k or so I could see a deal getting done at that point. However if he continues to outplay Gus, and the Flyers look like a playoff team, I don't think they would move him.

If this is the last year of his contract, they might as well keep him unless they can make an actual hockey trade. Pushing around salary in the extreme short term doesnt make a whole lot of sense.

Bill, when are you going to do the prospect updates? If I missed it, can you please link me?
Also, any news of Sam Morin's issue? I heard that he left the bench in a brawl but haven't seen any news as to what's expected. He missed last night's game, but the team/league site didn't have any news.

I still see us on the wrong side of the play-off line this season with our bad start so I think we'll be sellers. Which is why I think they move him at the trade deadline...
I WISH I felt otherwise.

Absolutely. Also, having an excess of proven NHL defenseman isn't a bad thing if you're pushing for a playoff spot/in the playoffs.

This game poses the same issues we tend to face with most of the better teams: We'll face a speed disadvantage.

I think we can grind on Minnesota's defense if/when we forecheck them -- though Ryan Suter plays half the freaking game -- and if we can just do our best to not turn the puck over and get caught in transition, I think...repeat think...we can get this one, 3-2.

As always, if we can score first...that would help immensely.

Unless they can get something useful for the roster, they might as well just keep him.

The only kind of trade you'd be making is "your crappy contract for my crappy contract", but really, what does that market even look like?

I think it will come down to the Flyers and Rangers for 3rd in the Metro and a guaranteed playoff spot. I don't think they will be sellers at the deadline because they will be right on the playoff bubble.
